Nashville Graffiti + Nashville DJ

DJ Wvsp (real name Jason) hails from New York, but has come to Nashville to pursue music. He's been around a few years honing his craft and and while he classifies himself as a house music style DJ, he's also been making a name in the wedding DJ arena. His vision was for graffiti-covered walls on his side of town, East Nashville. A local artist in front of art done by locals. Grungy and creative. Jason also wanted some headshots for his wedding DJ end of the business, two birds one stone as they say. Here are some behind the scenes on the editing and locations.

These were all shot with a one light setup! One Yongnuo IV speed light inside a Godox soft box with a set of triggers during full daylight around 4:30pm. Jason and I scouted these locations on a separate day and man did we pick some great spots. Here's a before and after of a wide shot and the image where I chose the color palette for this wall. Next, we moved on to some semi-formal headshots with a solid background found just a few feet away. For an incredibly windy day we managed to keep the tie pretty straight (with a little help from Photoshop). Get a DJ that can do both!

Then, we moved on to graffiti wall #2. On the side of what (I think?) was an auto garage, with a fairly obvious "No Trespassing" sign was so much graffiti we couldn't say no. Again, the before and after of this color palette. Top: Straight Out of Camera Bottom: Final Edit

Lastly, one more graffiti wall with the word "East" on it, showing where DJ Wvsp is now in his career and maybe someday a photo to show the beginning. A wall found on the side of a pilates studio if you can believe it! There are amazing locations all over Nashville, you truly just have to take your time and scout.

What a great time getting to work with this guy! Huge thanks to my assistant for the day, Waylon! If you have an idea and are looking fora way to express it in photos, contact me and let's get some coffee/beer and make it happen!
